our projects

City of West Chicago | Washington Street

City of West Chicago | Washington Street

The City of West Chicago required major soil and groundwater remediation of a 14-acre plot of land slated by the city for a major redevelopment. The city-owned land had historically been used for a wide variety of industrial uses (rail scrap yards, manufacturing, public works storage, etc.), and has been contaminated with heavy metals (notably mercury), PCBs, PNAs, and petroleum-based compounds. Patrick has been contracted to complete the entire remediation effort – over 100,000 cubic yards of impacted soils. The remedial effort includes the removal and appropriate disposal of the radium-contaminated soils. Patrick developed the approved remedial plan, which employs radium screening in the field to determine the locations for soil excavation. Patrick is responsible for all site investigation, coordination, feasibility studies, development of remedial action plans, implementation, and coordination with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, which is overseeing the remedial effort.
